Supported by: EU4Culture Programme funded by the European Union and implemented by UNOPS in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation.
Duration: December 2024 – October 2025
Purpose:
This project builds on the success of our previous EU4Culture-funded initiative, which focused on the revitalization of cultural heritage, particularly through the Old Doors Trail in Durrës. The new project aims to continue and enhance the opportunities created by that initiative, with an emphasis on creating and developing socio-economic growth opportunities for local communities. This goal will be achieved through the establishment of sustainable collaborations between civil society organizations and other cultural and creative operators near cultural heritage sites, as well as by generating innovative and environmentally friendly forms of cultural tourism. The project seeks to create a lasting impact by increasing the visibility and attractiveness of EU4Culture sites, drawing both domestic and international visitors.
Objectives:
To raise awareness of Durrës’ heritage among locals and tourists through cultural activities, fostering appreciation for sites such as the Venetian Tower and the Hammam;
To promote community engagement among local artists and cultural practitioners through the creation of temporary jobs, the promotion of sustainable tourism practices, and education about Durrës’ heritage.
Results:
Cultural activities will increase awareness of Durrës’ heritage among locals and tourists, deepening appreciation for sites such as the Venetian Tower and the Hammam, while promoting cultural participation.
The project fosters community inclusion and collaboration among local artists and cultural practitioners, creating temporary employment opportunities and promoting sustainable cultural practices.
